Comet
Holmes in the Evening Sky
|
Comet
Holmes is now plainly visible to the naked eye. Its size and
brightness even allow for viewing from urban areas, though darker
skies and telescopes will enhance the experience. The comet
has evolved from a tremendous explosion that took place on 23
Oct 2007. After the explosion, Comet Holmes increased in brightness
a million-fold in less than 24 hours. Since the explosion, the
sunshine yellow core has been expanding, though no one knows
the underlying cause of the explosion or current expansion.
Regardless of exactly why it is happening, you can enjoy a view
of Comet Holmes by looking toward the constellation Perseus.
Comet Holmes will look like a fuzzy star in the northeast sky
after sunset. For more information on Comet Holmes and how to
locate it CLICK
