In partnership with many hosting officials and agencies, the National Weather Service in Lubbock is pleased to announce the 2012 Skywarn Severe Weather Training sessions.
The training is conducted across the Lubbock National Weather Service County Warning Area. If you are interested in scheduling a Skywarn class for your group in 2012, please contact our Warning Coordination Meteorologist (WCM) in February.
Skywarn sessions from the National Weather Service provide severe weather awareness and preparedness training to first responders (e.g., local law enforcement; fire departments; emergency medical units; emergency managers; local media; and amateur radio operators). Skywarn sessions are typically held exclusive to these groups. In most counties in the NWS Lubbock CWA (County Warning Area), one training session is conducted in each county, and in some cases one training session may be for spotters in two or more counties.
Severe Weather Safety events provide useful information about the National Weather Service - with an emphasis on weather safety.
As severe weather awareness is important for everyone, the National Weather Service will also make these opportunities available to the general public.
Please see the following table for a list of the scheduled spotter training classes. The light blue shaded locations and/or events are Open-To-The-Public. Training Sessions listed in gray have already been completed.
Note: Scheduled training sessions will be updated as necessary.
