The National Weather Service and NWS Forecast Office in Lubbock lost a member of their family on April 5, 2006 with the passing of Johnny Wallace. Johnny was the Data Acquisition Program Manager ( DAPM) for NWS Lubbock, a position he held since January 30, 2000. Prior to the DAPM position, Johnny was a Hydro-Meteorological Technician at NWS Lubbock from 1994-2000 and also worked positions at National Weather Service offices in Waco, San Antonio and Fort Worth, TX as well as Columbus, Georgia. Johnny's 40 years of public service began in 1966 when he joined the Air Force. He began working for the NWS in 1970.

Johnny was a popular member of the NWS Lubbock staff, known for his dry sense of humor and for telling it like it is. He was a very special person and everyone considered him a good friend. Johnny received numerous awards during his long career and his diligent work with the volunteers of NWS Lubbock's Cooperative Observer program resulted in strong relationships between the citizens of West Texas and NWS Lubbock. He will truly be missed.

Johnny is survived by his wife Priscilla Wallace of Lubbock, three sons, David Wallace of Lubbock, Bryan Brown of Lubbock, Jessie Brown and wife Celeste of Waco, and a brother Jerry Wallace of Dallas.
