Remarks:

-Dec 24, 2011 - A very slow moving upper-level storm system moved into the South Plains area from eastern New Mexico. Two inches of snow fell at the Lubbock Airport, but up to 10 inches fell in a swath across Cochran, Lamb and Hale Counties. To learn more about this event CLICK HERE.

-Dec 24, 2009 - A major winter storm impacted the area with heavy snow and strong winds. The Lubbock Airport officially measured 2.9 inches of snow on the day, with another half an inch falling late on the 23rd, though some locations reported totals anywhere from 1-8 inches. Snow on the ground officially measured three inches to begin the day, with two inches left on the ground Christmas morning. -Dec 24, 2004 - Cold air remained entrenched across the area. Lubbock recorded measurable snow for the third day in a row (3" on the 22nd, 0.3" on the 23rd, and 0.4" on the 24th). Snow on the ground measured two inches to begin the day as well as Christmas morning.

-Dec 24, 1926 - A strong cold front blew through the area dropping temperatures over 20 degrees from early morning into the afternoon, and bringing nearly 6 inches of snow.

Dec 24, 1983 - Coldest Christmas Eve on record with a low of 0 degrees and a high of only 8 degrees.
