Preliminary Local Climatological Data (WS Form: F-6) Explanation

IMPORTANT!! - F-6 Data is not "certified" data, It is  Preliminary Climatological 
 data only!  For Certified data contact the National Climatological  Data Center 
 (NCDC).  It may take 2 to 3 months for NCDC to certify the data.
Column 1DYThe day of the month. The day is from midnight to midnight Local Standard Time (CST in LA and MS).
Column 2MAXThe day's high temperature from midnight to midnight.
Column 3MINThe day's low temperature from midnight to midnight.
Column 4AVGThe day's average temperature.
Column 5DEPThe average temperature's departure from normal.
Column 6aHDDHeating Degree Days (65 - Avg = # of HDD). Use when the average temperature (Avg) is less than 65.
Column 6bCDDCooling Degree Days (Avg - 65 = # of CDD). Use when the average temperature (Avg) is greater than 65.
Column 7WTRThe water equivalent of the day's precipitation.
Column 8SNWThe day's snowfall.
Column 9DPTH The depth of the snow, measured at 1200 UTC (6 AM CST/7 AM CDT).
Column 10AVG SPDThe average sustained, or two-minute average in miles per hour.
Column 11MX SPDThe fastest 2 minute wind speed (in mph).
Column 122MIN DIRThe direction of the fastest sustained wind, in degrees of the compass.
Where 90 is a wind from the east, 360 a wind from the north, etc.
Column 13MINThe number of minutes of sunshine received during the day.
Column 14PSBLThe percentage of possible minutes of sunshine.
Column 15S-SAverage amount of sky cover in tenths from sunrise to sunset.
Column 16WXWeather (wx) codes for the day (see list of codes on bottom of summary).
Column 17SPDThe peak wind speed for the day (in mph).
Column 18DRThe direction of the day's peak wind in degrees of the compass.
