...LOCAL CLIMATE RECORD DATABASE AUDIT UNDERWAY...

As announced previously, a project to quality control and modernize the climate record databalse for Lake Charles from 1895 to present was completed. This project involved correcting all erroneous data for the entire 115 year period of weather records for the station. With the approach of the new year, an audit of the databases for our remaining climate sites (Alexandria, Beaumont/Port Arthur, Lafayette and New Iberia) has been initiated to similarly correct any incorrect data these may contain. These audits have been initiated to ensure that all climate data being disseminated by this office, including those used in products such as the daily climate summary, record event report, and public information statements, as well as on the National Weather Service Lake Charles website, is completely accurate.

So far the data for all sites has been checked, and if necessary, corrected, for the month of January. This data includes records for maximum and minimum Temperatures, maximum Precipitation amounts and highest snowfall totals. The checks for each ensuing month will be completed prior to its start, but likely much sooner.

Because the audit project is ongoing, all climate information for any time frame other than January should be considered preliminary. Subsequent Public Information Statements, like this one, will be issued periodically to update the progress of the audit project.

Climate information for Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas is available on our website listed below.
