AREA, AFFECTING THE COMMUNITIES OF LAUDERHILL, TAMARAC AND CORAL
SPRINGS. FLOODING BEGAN DURING THE EVENING OF SUNDAY AUGUST 26 AND
CONTINUED THROUGH TUESDAY, AUGUST 28. MAIN IMPACT WAS ON STREETS AND
HIGHWAYS, WITH A COUPLE OF HIGHWAY ON-RAMPS CLOSED IN TAMARAC. CITY
OF LAUDERHILL SUSTAINED THE MOST SERIOUS FLOODING WITH THE AREA
SOUTH OF COMMERCIAL BOULEVARD TO 44 STREET BETWEEN UNIVERSITY AND
PINE ISLAND DRIVES UNDER A FEW FEET OF WATER. WATER ENTERED A FEW
HOMES AND BUSINESSES IN THIS AREA AS WELL AS IN NEARBY TAMARAC.
SOUTHWESTERN METRO BROWARD ALSO SAW SOME FLOODING, MAINLY IN THE
MIRAMAR AND SOUTHWEST RANCHES AREAS, BUT NOT AS SEVERE AS TO THE
NORTH.
GLADES...MINOR FLOODING IN THE EASTERN HALF OF THE COUNTY.
HENDRY...NO IMPACTS NOTED.
COLLIER...NO IMPACTS NOTED.
PALM BEACH...SEVERE FLOODING OCCURRED OVER LARGE PARTS OF THE METRO
AREA. HARDEST HIT AREA WAS WEST OF THE TURNPIKE FROM BOCA RATON TO
THE ACREAGE WHERE 10-16 INCHES OF RAIN WAS MEASURED, WITH RADAR
ESTIMATES OF UP TO 18-20 INCHES. COMMUNITIES OF WELLINGTON, ROYAL
PALM BEACH, LOXAHATCHEE AND THE ACREAGE SUFFERED THE WORST OF THE
FLOODING, WITH ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOODS ISOLATED BY SEVERAL FEET OF
WATER DUE TO THE RAINS AND OVER-TOPPING CANALS. FLOODING BEGAN
DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON OF SUNDAY AUGUST 26TH, BECOMING SEVERE
AFTER 10 PM SUNDAY AND CONTINUING FOR SEVERAL DAYS. WITH ESTIMATED
DAMAGE IN THE TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. MODERATE FLOODING WAS
ALSO NOTED IN THE PAHOKEE AREA.
