This SEPTEMBER was rather quiet with some locations in the state only receiving measurable rain on 3 or less days during the month. The isolated nature of the storms this September led to virtually no entries in our contest for an outstanding radar storm presentation. In addition, the tropics were unusually quiet with only one named storm in the Atlantic Basin. Therefore, we thought it would be a good time to check in on the status of El Nino and here is an image of Sea Surface Temperature Anomalies on the 30th taken by the Navy. Note the dramatic area of warmer-than-normal water extending westward from South America - this El Nino effect may be one of the strongest of the Century!
