Storm of the Month
|
The NOVEMBER WINNER occurred about 50 nautical miles north of the radar as
the southern end of a squall line moved through Holmes county of central
Mississippi. This storm complex exhibited severe weather signatures for at
least 2 hours while crossing the state. The latest severe weather algorithms from the National
Severe Storms Laboratory produced numerous tornado-like shears periodically. The images below
were taken at 1437Z(837am CST) when the radar-identified Meso extended up to 19,000 ft or
about 48% of the storm's depth. Two TVS symbols(upside down red triangles) can
be seen on the top two images of the 4 Panel below. Also, the 50dBz cores
extended to near 29,000 ft during this same time frame. Mostly straight-line
wind damage occurred with this long-lived cell even as it exitted into Alabama
later in the morning.
