Storm of the Month
|
Our MAY WINNER that occurred near Ackermann on the afternoon of the 9th gave
several severe weather signatures. This storm returned very intense reflectivity
images with a classic Bounded Weak Echo Region and a radar-defined Mesocyclone
through 31 thousand feet. Even at a range of 80nm from our radar the Probability
of Severe Hail algorithm hit 100% with an estimated Hail Size approaching 3 inches.
The attending Rank 5 MESO that was identified registered Shear Values at the
0.5 degree elevation slice of only 8 E-3/s over a 3.0 nm diameter. This
Supercell produced at least 3/4 inch hail, winds of 60mph and a funnel cloud in
Choctaw County while the hail continued on
into Oktibbeha County as it moved east at about 30 mph.
