Storm of the Month
|
We hope you are as impressed with nature's display of power represented in
this storm as we were looking at it through our Doppler radar imagery. This
storm also became our 1995 champion.
Here's our MAY WINNER that occurred in Claiborne County on the evening of the 18th.
This storm not only was massive in height but was also over 15 miles in diameter. The
persistent MESO that was identified with the storm reached a depth of 17,000 feet and
registered Shear Values at the 0.5 degree elevation slice of 23 E-3/s. The VILS
topped 75 kg/m*m on several volume scans when this Supercell produced golfball to
baseball sized hail. Strangely enough, this right-mover had a forward speed below 8
knots and this facet probably limited it's ability to produce a substantial tornado.
