Our JULY WINNER erupted in Copiah county about 35 miles southwest of the radar on the 26th as one thunderstorm pulsed up to severe levels in the sparsely populated northwest portion of the county. The storm became massive in height with 50+dBz to nearly 42,000 feet and an elevated core of 65-70dBz returns as high as 34,000 feet. The VIL of 64 kg/m*m met our criteria for Severe Hail and the Severe Hail Probability algorithm pegged 100% at 619 pm with a Maximum Hail Size estimated at 2.0 inches in diameter. There was also a decent Weak Echo region(higher dBz returns overhanging lower returns) along with a weak rotational circulation that persisted for 15-20 minutes. This storm downed several trees west of Crystal Springs according to one of our Skywarn Spotters.
