Our JULY WINNER erupted just before 300 am on the 13th as a complex of thunderstorms moved from Chicot County, Arkansas across the Mississippi River near Lake Lee. The storm became massive in height with 50+dBz to nearly 49,000 feet and an elevated core of 65-70dBz returns as high as 30,000 feet. A note of interest was the VIL of 74 kg/m*m at this time of day with the Severe Hail Probability algorithm pegging 100% for three volume scans while the rotational criteria remained on the weak side.

This storm resulted from a cell-merger that probably produced both high winds and some large hail. Our algorithm estimated the baseball-sized hail was possible just before the storm crossed the Mississippi River. Ground truth was very limited on this early Monday morning.
