The winner for this August occurred in Simpson County during the evening of the 9th which is typical timing for summertime pulse severe thunderstorms. This storm shot up to a VIL of 84 kg/m*m while pushing the Maximum Hail Size estimation to near 2.5 inches in diameter. This storm was riding a classic outflow boundary from an earlier storm which helped focus the updraft and pushed the 50dBz+ returns to 49,000 feet or higher. The weak circulation extended to over 15,000 feet in the storm and reached a Meso Strength Index of 2690 which is pretty impressive for the summertime. This storm produced at least 1.0 inch diameter hail and significant oak tree damage near Magee.
