We had to wait until late in the month but here's our AUGUST WINNER that actually occurred in Tangipahoa Parish near Hammond, LA on the afternoon of the 31st. The storm was massive in height once again with 55dBz up to 40,000 feet located about 112 nm from the radar. The slow movement kept many of the classic severe weather features at bay but "cloudburst" and probably "downburst" would definitely apply here. The cell-based VIL reached 71 on this storm. Earlier this same afternoon, a downburst wind of 40 mph was responsible for cutting short the annual Sky Parade airshow at the Jackson International Airport which included the Navy's Blue Angels.
