Our APRIL WINNER developed in the high instability environment that occurred about 75 miles north of the radar as an operator-defined Tornadic Vortex Signature(TVS) was detected shortly after 800am the morning of the 20th in western Carroll County. The 4-Panel images below reflect a well-developed supercell with tops to 51,000 feet, a VIL of 61 kg/m*m, and a tilted strong Mesocyclone as seen on the second Storm Relative Velocity images. The Mesocyclone depth was at least 15,000 feet with a Shear Value of 22(e-3/s). The Base Velocity image(not shown) also depicted a "data void" pixel at the center of the Meso which has become a good identifier for tornadic storms. One person was killed by this storm as it reached Carrollton.

This storm also became our 1996 champion.
