How to Give Late Reports of Severe Weather for our County Warning Area

Late reports from the WFO Jackson county warning area may still be used to evaluate the NWS warning service, or be included in "STORM DATA", a report published by the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC).

Late Reports of Severe Weather should contain:
  • Location i.e....in Jackson or 5 miles south of Ridgeland
  • Date of Event...i.e. December 5,
  • Time of Event i.e....11 pm or 8 am.
  • Severe Event i.e...Tornado, Large HAIL, Wind Damage, and Flooding (from what to report section)
  • Name...Organization i.e. (Private Citizen...Law Enforcement Agency...Media...Spotter Organization or Ham Network

The primary function of National Weather Service Spotters is to report on-going severe weather to the local National Weather Service (NWS) office. This is usually done through local SKYWARN nets, or by calling the NWS directly at (601)936-2189. There are times you may come across reportable severe weather events, hours or even days after the severe weather has occurred.
