Brandon Radar Installation Coming Along On Schedule

As of December 16, 2002 the installation of the new Brandon Radar appears to be right on schedule. In the pictures below you can see the Dome has been assembled and four sections of the tower have been erected.

The sixth and final section of the tower will go up on the 17th or the 18th and then the Dome will be placed on the tower on the 19th or 20th weather permitting. In order to lift the dome atop the tower the winds have to be less than 15 miles an hour. So if the weather does not cooperate for the aforementioned dates the dome will be raised on the first day the weather permits.

Final installation and testing for the new radar are scheduled to be completed by February 2003. This date is almost exactly ten years from the time the original Jackson radar was accepted on March 29th, 1993

The National Weather will try to notify media outlets as to when the dome raising may be.
