Tornado Preparedness Week 2013
Tuesday - October 29, 2013 - Tornadoes During School Time

In recent years, several school facilities have taken direct hits from tornadoes, most recently in Moore Oklahoma. In light of this, we were curious to see how vulnerable school districts are to tornadoes across Mississippi. The map below shows tornado tracks that occurred during the typical school day timeframe (6:30 am to 5:00 pm) and during the typical months school is in session. The shaded areas show the average number of tornado days per 5 year period. As you can see, school districts across the central portion of the state historically have seen the most tornadoes during the typical school day.
