A new record for tornadoes in any month, and for April, has been set. A total of 67 tornadoes occurred during April 2011. This breaks the old April record of 26, which was set back in 2005. Additionally, of the 67 total April tornadoes, 30 of them were strong or violent (EF2 to EF5), which in itself broke the old record. Lastly, this sets a new monthly record for tornadoes for any month since 1950. The old record was 44, this was set during the Hurricane Rita outbreak of Sep 24-25, 2005.
