Evacuation Zones Explained

Find the location of your home or business and note the evacuation zone where it is located. Be prepared to evacuate for any hurricane whose category is equal to or greater than the letter of you evacuation zone. For example, those in Evacuation Zone C should plan to evacuate for a Category 4 or 5 hurricane. Those in Evacuation Zone B should plan to evacuate for a Category 3, 4 or 5 hurricane. Those in Evacuation Zone A should plan to evacuate for all hurricanes.

If you live near an evacuation zone boundary and are unsure of which evacuation zone you are in, err on the side of caution. Assume that you are in the evacuation zone that will be affected by a lower category hurricane. Thus, if you live close to the border of Evacuation Zones B and C, assume that you are in Evacuation Zone B and plan to evacuate for a Category 3, 4 or 5 hurricane. If you live in a mobile home in any of the three evacuation zones, plan to evacuate any time a hurricane threatens.
