Southeast Texas Severe Weather Awareness Week
February 22 - 28, 2009 |
When it comes to severe weather events, the key to successful response - and survival - is preparedness. Every year,
the National Weather Service (NWS), the
Governor's Division of Emergency Management (GDEM), local officials and
emergency managers throughout Texas work together to recognize Severe Weather Awareness Week. This year
Severe Weather Awareness Week in Texas has been set for February 22 - 28, 2009.
During Severe Weather Awareness Week, the National Weather Service in coordination with the
Texas Division of Emergency Management
will highlight various aspects of severe weather. Newspapers, broadcast media, safety organizations, and other local government
officials are encouraged to work with their communities to disseminate severe weather awareness information to prepare them
for the upcoming severe weather season.
This website is designed to serve as a guide to the dangers of severe weather and its impacts on southeast Texas, and to serve
as a guide to community groups around southeast Texas. This website includes information on what safety precautions to take
when dealing with various severe weather threats including flash flooding, tornadoes, hail, high winds and lightning. It also includes
important information on a mock tornado drill planned for February 25th at 10 am, which will be an opportunity
to test tornado emergency plans at schools and businesses.
