- So far, the 2009 Hurricane season has been quiet. But don't let that
fool you - the peak of the season doesn't come around until around
the middle of September. It is very early in the hurricane season and you can always check out the
National Hurricane Awareness Week website
for excellent information that can be used to save lives at work, home, while on the road, or on the water. So check it out now - do not wait until the
next storm is on our doorstep!
- Keeping on the hurricane theme, you can have your own copy of the 2009 Hurricane Workshop
booklet. Storm names for 2009 and future seasons can be found here.
- Our Hurricane Ike page can be found here, and an Ike storm survey kml file can be found
here. If you are interested in participating in a short survey designed
to help improve storm surge products and information, please click here.
This project is being undertaken by a Hollings Scholar at Texas A&M University. If you are curious about the Hollings Scholarship program, you can find more

- For some locations, June was a record shattering warm and dry month. See new temperature records for
Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH), Houston Hobby Airport (HOU) and
College Station (CLL). Updated Top 10 lists for June are available for
IAH, HOU,
CLL and Galveston (GLS).
A Public Information Statement has been issued that summarizes how amazing June 2009 turned out.

- As we wait for our first named storm of the 2009 hurricane season, our dry and hot weather pattern continues.
The latest U.S. Seasonal Drought Outlook does not look good
for our area.
- We're probably not thinking a lot about lightning these days, but this phenomenon annually strikes more than 400 people in the United States.
Lightning Safety Awareness Week is June 21-27.

at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

schedule. May 15th marked the start of the 2009 East Pacific Hurricane Season and
June 1st marked the start of the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The first Tropical Weather

- Hurricane Guides are available from the Weather Forecast Offices of HGX,
CRP, BRO and
LCH. The pdf files are very, very large.

- For some locations, May was a record breaking warm and dry month. Houston Hobby Airport just recorded its
fifth warmest and eighth driest May on record, Houston
Intercontinental Airport just recorded its seventh driest May on record,
Galveston just recorded its sixth warmest May on record,
and College Station just recorded its tenth warmest May on record.

- NOAA has issued their 2009 season outlooks for the
Atlantic, the Eastern Pacific and the
Central Pacifiic.
- Throughout the 2009 tropical cyclone season (June 1st through November 30th), comments will be accepted on the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
- Hurricane Guides are available from the Weather Forecast Offices of HGX,
