Notice to Point-and-Click Marine Forecast Users
Beginning Tuesday June 3, 2008, the NWS will implement a needed correction that will affect users of the Point-and-Click Coastal
Marine Forecast in the Matagorda Bay area.
East Matagorda Bay has always been included within the GMZ350 zone group, which includes the nearshore Gulf waters. When users
click on the eastern part of Matagorda Bay, the nearshore Gulf waters forecast pops up. This forecast includes seas/swells which this
portion of the Bay does not receive as it is protected by the Matagorda peninsula. More or less, this forecast is not representative
of actual conditions experienced by this area. The forecast should read more in line with a "bay waters" forecast (GMZ330) where
water conditions are described as smooth, slightly choppy, choppy, or rough. This would greatly benefit mariners that "click" on east
Matagorda Bay by giving them a representative bay water forecast versus one intended for the Gulf itself.
