The weather on Halloween is typically autumnlike with mild temperatures. An occasional cold front will glide through the region about once every three years bringing slightly cooler temperatures and scattered showers. Rain has fallen on Halloween about 33 percent of the time in College Station, Galveston and Houston. Average high temperatures are generally in the mid to upper 70s. October is one of the rare months in Southeast Texas where there is very little variation in high temperatures between coastal and inland locations. Average low temperatures range from the lower 50s over the north, mid 50s central and lower 60s along the coast. Snow has neven fallen on trick or treaters but Jack Frost may have nipped at Mr. Jack O'Lantern a time or two.

Weather conditions vary in October. Some months are unusually quiet while others can be unusually violent. One significant outbreak of unusual weather occurred on Halloween in 1981. Heavy rain fell along a stationary front draped across the area. Rainfall totals averaged 5 to 10 inches along and west of Interstate 45. Some rainfall totals included 6.80 inches in Ft. Bend County, 10 inches in Austin County and 9 inches in both Colorado County and Wharton County.
