Daily Historical Weather for April 18

A localized yet very heavy rain affected portions of southern Harris and northern Galveston counties in 2009. 6.90 inches of rain was measured in one hour at the Harris County Flood Control rain gage located at Bay Area Boulevard and Clear Creek. Eight to ten inches of rain were reported across parts of Harris and Galveston counties and the NWS office in League City reported 7.88 inches of rain. Roadways became impassable due to high water and five fatalities occurred due to the flooding.

In 1979, Conroe received 15.61 inches of rain in 24 hours and 19.30 inches of rain for month. Parts of Harris County received between 10 and 16 inches of rain and most of the bayous came out of banks. The flood event produced three fatalities.

An EF-3 tornado developed just north of Lake Jackson on this date in 1966. The storm did not produce any injuries or fatalities.
