SECTIONS OF THE COUNTY...SUCH AS HAMSHIRE AND FANNETT...HAD FLOOD
WATERS ENTER SOME HOMES AND COVER AREA ROADWAYS.

ORANGE COUNTY...WIDESPREAD FRESH WATER FLOODING OCCURRED. THE
SERVICE ROAD ALONG I-10 NEAR VIDOR WAS CLOSED DUE TO HIGH WATER. THE
HIGHWAY 105 UNDERPASS IN VIDOR WAS CLOSED DUE TO HIGH WATER.

CALCASIEU PARISH...MINOR FRESH WATER FLOODING OCCURRED ON ROADWAYS
IN WESTERN CALCASIEU PARISH...INCLUDING THE VINTON AND STARKS AREAS.

BEAUREGARD PARISH...WIDESPREAD FRESH WATER FLOODING OCCURRED IN
DERIDDER. SOME HOMES IN DERIDDER SAW FLOOD WATERS ENTER THEM. US
HIGHWAY 171 WAS CLOSED IN FRONT OF WAL-MART AND MOTORISTS BECAME
STRANDED IN HIGH WATER. OTHER FLOODED ROADWAYS INCLUDED LA HIGHWAY

OVER 120,000 CUSTOMERS LOST POWER IN JEFFERSON AND ORANGE COUNTIES.
AT LEAST 50 HIGH VOLTAGE TRANSMISSION POLES WERE BLOWN DOWN OR
SERIOUSLY DAMAGED.

THREE OIL REFINERIES IN THE PORT ARTHUR AREA LOST POWER DURING THE
HURRICANE. THESE THREE REFINERIES PRODUCE APPROXIMATELY 850,000
BARRELS OF OIL A DAY.

ONE LARGE STORAGE TANK UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT A NEW LNG FACILITY IN
SABINE PASS WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED.

AN APARTMENT COMPLEX IN GROVES HAD THE ROOF COME OFF 12 UNITS.

THE US COAST GUARD HAD TO RESCUE A 65 YEAR OLD MAN ON A SAILBOAT
DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM (0930Z OR 430 AM). HE WAS ATTEMPTING
TO SAIL THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY FROM CORTEZ FLORIDA TO CORPUS
CHRISTI TEXAS. HE WAS RESCUED VIA HELICOPTER NEAR TAYLORS BAYOU.

SEVERAL HOUSE FIRES OCCURRED DURING THE HURRICANE.

WIND DAMAGE WAS MOST SEVERE IN WESTERN AREAS OF JEFFERSON COUNTY
AROUND HAMSHIRE...AND SOUTHERN SECTIONS OF JEFFERSON COUNTY INCLUDING
SABINE PASS...PORT ARTHUR...PORT NECHES...GROVES...AND NEDERLAND.
THIS CONSISTED OF SCATTERED TREES AND POWER LINES BLOWN DOWN...AND
SOME MINOR ROOF DAMAGE.

THE 12 INJURIES INCLUDED SNAKE BITES...CUTS...BRUISES...AND BROKEN
BONES.

IN BRIDGE CITY...AN 80 YEAR OLD MAN DIED WHEN HE WENT OUTSIDE TO
CHECK ON HIS BACKYARD AND HIS CARPORT COLLAPSED ON HIM.

MOST OF THE DAMAGE WAS TREES AND POWER LINES DOWNED. SOME HOMES
RECEIVED DAMAGE WHEN TREES FELL ON THEM.

A LAW FIRM IN ORANGE WAS DESTROYED AT THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM FROM A
FIRE.

MINOR COASTAL FLOODING OCCURRED FROM HOLLY BEACH TO JOHNSON BAYOU.
DOWNTOWN CAMERON ALSO HAD SOME WATER ACROSS MAIN STREET.

SPORADIC WIND DAMAGE SUCH AS TREES AND POWER LINES DOWNED WERE
REPORTED IN THE JOHNSON BAYOU AREA.  POWER POLES WERE ALSO KNOCKED
DOWN NEAR THE TEXAS BORDER.

THE LAKE CHARLES CIVIC CENTER WAS OPENED AS A SHELTER WEDNESDAY
(13TH) NIGHT. 29 PEOPLE SHOWED UP. THE SHELTER CLOSED THURSDAY
(14TH) EVENING.

WIND DAMAGE WAS CONFINED TO WESTERN SECTIONS OF THE PARISH...FROM
VINTON TO STARKS...BUT DID EXTEND TO THE NORTH AROUND DEQUINCY. THE
WIND DAMAGE WAS MAINLY TREES AND POWER LINES DOWNED.

ACROSS SOUTHERN SECTIONS OF THE PARISH.

FLOODING WAS A MORE SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM...ESPECIALLY IN THE DERIDDER
AREA WHERE MOTORISTS BECAME STRANDED IN HIGH WATER.
