UNSEASONABLY COOL TEMPERATURES FILTERED INTO SOUTHEAST TEXAS ON
THE LAST DAY OF JULY AS A WEAK COLD FRONT CROSSED THE AREA. HIGH
TEMPERATURES FAILED TO REACH 90 DEGREES OVER MOST OF THE AREA
DURING THE FIRST TWO DAYS OF AUGUST. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE AT
HOUSTON ON SATURDAY WAS ONLY 82 DEGREES WHICH IS A WHOPPING 13
DEGREES COOLER THAN THE 30 YEAR NORMAL VALUE FOR THIS DATE. THE
NORMAL HIGH FOR TODAY IS 95 DEGREES. THE LAST TIME HOUSTON
RECORDED A HIGH TEMPERATURE THAT WAS 13 DEGREES COOLER THAN NORMAL
WAS ON MAY 27TH. COINCIDENTALLY...THE LAST TIME HOUSTON MEASURED A
HIGH TEMPERATURE THAT WAS LOWER THAN TODAYS 82 DEGREE VALUE WAS ON
MAY 27TH. ONE MORE LITTLE TIDBIT...TODAY WAS THE FOURTH COOLEST
AUGUST 2ND IN RECORDED HISTORY. THE COOLEST MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE
FOR TODAY WAS 77 DEGREES AND OCCURRED IN 1892. IT WAS 80 DEGREES
IN 1953 AND 1925 AND THEN TODAYS VALUE OF 82 DEGREES.

SIMILAR CONDITIONS HAVE AFFECTED THE COLLEGE STATION AREA. THE
HIGH TEMPERATURE AT COLLEGE STATION TODAY WAS ALSO 82 DEGREES
WHICH IS 14 DEGREES COOLER THAN THE 30 YEAR NORMALS. THE NORMAL
HIGH FOR THIS DATE IS 96 DEGREES. THE LAST TIME THE HIGH
TEMPERATURE WAS COOLER THAN TODAY VALUES OCCURRED ON JULY 18TH
WHEN THE HIGH TEMPERATURE ONLY REACHED 79 DEGREES. THE LAST TIME
COLLEGE STATION RECORDED A HIGH TEMPERATURE THAT WAS MORE THAN
14 DEGREES COOLER THAN NORMAL WAS ALSO ON JULY 18TH. TODAY WAS
ALSO THE FOURTH COOLEST HIGH TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED ON THIS
DATE TRAILING ONLY 1925 AND 1971 (75 DEGREES) AND 1975 (79
DEGREES).

HOUSTON HOBBY HAD A HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 83 DEGREES TODAY WHICH IS
THE SECOND COOLEST HIGH TEMPERATURE EVER RECORDED ON THIS DATE.
ONLY THE 82 DEGREES RECORDED BACK IN 1953 WAS COOLER THAN TODAY.
THE LAST TIME THE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS COOLER THAN TODAY WAS BACK
ON MAY 27TH.

GALVESTON REACHED 84 DEGREES TODAY WHICH WAS SIX DEGREES COOLER
THAN THE NORMAL HIGH OF 90. IT ALSO TIES FOR THE SIXTH COOLEST

THIS COOL SPELL WILL BE SHORT LIVED. SUNDAY WILL ONCE AGAIN BE A
BIT COOLER THAN NORMAL WITH HIGH TEMPERATURE VALUES APPROACHING
NORMAL VALUES EARLY NEXT WEEK.
