...NEW YEARS DAY CLIMATE IN THE 21ST CENTURY...

NEW YEARS DAY IS QUICKLY APPROACHING...AND THE HOLIDAY WEATHER
ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS SINCE 2001 HAS BEEN A MIX OF VERY WARM AND
FREEZING TEMPERATURES. OVERALL...THE PERIOD FROM 2001 TO 2006
TRENDED WARMER. SINCE THEN...RELATIVELY COLDER CONDITIONS HAVE
OCCURRED ON THE HOLIDAY.

THE FOLLOWING TABLE LISTS THE HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURE ALONG WITH
RAINFALL FOR EACH NEW YEARS DAY FROM 2001 TO 2013. THESE ARE LISTED
FOR EACH OF THE FOUR MAJOR CLIMATE SITES LOCATED WITHIN THE
HOUSTON/GALVESTON NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY.
FOR A COMPARISON...THE AVERAGE HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURES AND THE
AVERAGE RAINFALL FOR THE 13-YEAR PERIOD AT EACH SITE IS THEN LISTED
AT THE END OF THE TABLE. NOTE THAT THE DATA COLLECTED FOR CITY OF
HOUSTON IS FROM INTERCONTINENTAL AIRPORT...COLLEGE STATION IS FROM
EASTERWOOD FIELD...AND GALVESTON IS FROM SCHOLES FIELD.

AND 2002...2003 TO 2006...AND 2007 TO 2013. FOR COMPARISON...THE
