...PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...

A TEAM FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE IN LEAGUE CITY WAS
SENT OUT TODAY TO SURVEY STORM DAMAGE IN BRAZOS AND WASHINGTON
COUNTIES DUE TO A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM SUNDAY EVENING. THE
LOCATIONS SURVEYED WERE IN THE WELLBORN AREA OF BRAZOS COUNTY AND
NEAR BURTON IN WASHINGTON COUNTY.

DAMAGE IN BRAZOS COUNTY WAS OBSERVED ALONG KOPPE BRIDGE ROAD AND
THOUSAND OAKS ROAD WEST OF WELLBORN. NUMEROUS LARGE LIMBS WERE
DOWNED AND SEVERAL LARGE TREES WERE SNAPPED OFF SEVERAL FEET ABOVE
THE GROUND. THE SURVEY FOUND THAT THE NATURE OF THE DAMAGE
SUGGESTED THUNDERSTORM STRAIGHT LINE WINDS. BASED UPON THE
SEVERITY OF DAMAGE TO SOME OF THE TREES...WINDS WERE LIKELY NEAR
90 MPH IN THIS AREA.

DAMAGE IN WASHINGTON COUNTY WAS OBSERVED ALONG FM 390 NORTH OF
BURTON BETWEEN QUAIL RUN ROAD AND GLENBLYTHE ROAD. MOST OF THE
DAMAGE IN THIS AREA WAS ALSO TO TREES...ALTHOUGH A METAL CARPORT
WAS ALSO DESTROYED. THE SURVEY FOUND THAT STRAIGHT LINE WINDS OF
85 TO 90 MPH WERE LIKELY IN THIS AREA.
