How To Be A Marine Spotter

As a mariner, would you like to provide a valuable service to your marine community?

The Houston/Galveston National Weather Service Office would like recreational and commercial boaters to volunteer as Marine Weather Spotters. Volunteers will be provided basic marine weather training.

The spotters will be called upon occasionally to provide "on the spot" weather reports. Observed weather like thunderstorms, fog, wind and dangerous sea conditions are some of which that can be passed on to the Weather Service Office or the U.S. Coast Guard.

"On the spot" reports from volunteer observers will complement weather data gathered other sources such as buoy, satellite, and doppler weather radar. Reports from spotters will help improve marine weather forecasts and warnings for the marine community! For more information, please contact the office at 281.337.5074 or FAX 281.337.3798.
