State Forecast for North Texas

(SFP, FPUS64)

State Forecast 'forecast area'The SFP provides a general public forecast of hydrometeorological conditions over a NWS Weather Office's forecast area of responsibility for the next 5 days. It is issued at least twice daily around 5:00 am/pm and is updated when needed. The forecast area typically includes an entire state or part of one or more states. (The forecast area for NWS Fort Worth/Dallas are at right.) The 5-day SFP uses the discrete period format that is separated into a 1 & 2 day forecast section and a 3-5 day extended forecast section.

The SFP will be in the discrete period format similar to the Zone Forecasts. For the morning issuance, the periods begin with .TODAY... and for the evening issuance the periods begin with .TONIGHT....

The SFP will concentrate on the most significant hydrometeorological conditions expected to affect major parts or all of the forecast area to keep the forecast from becoming unnecessarily complicated. In general, more detail will be found in the 1 & 2 day forecast section than in the 3-5 day section of the forecast.

When significant conditions are expected in only part of the forecast area, this will be specified. Approximate divisions used at NWS Fort Worth/Dallas are as follows...

Northwest/Southeast half
Northwest / Southeast half
North / South half
North / South half
Northeast half/Southwest half
Northeast / Southwest half
West/Central/East
West / Central / East
Northwest/North Central/etc.
Northwest / North Central / etc.
