September


1st 1940 - The downtown weather observation office Dallas was consolidated with the Love Field office.
1937 - The forecast office was moved from Love Field Dallas to Meacham Field Fort Worth. The observation branch remained at Love Field.
1898 - The Weather Bureau opened a weather office downtown Fort Worth.
2nd 1951 - High temperature of 107°F in Dallas tied the record high for the month of September.
3rd 1934 - The first significant rain in 5 months fell across North Texas.
4th 1932 - On the 4th and 5th, Fort Worth received its greatest 24 hour rainfall of 9.57". 5.59" of it fell only 2 hours.
5th 1910 - Flash flooding across Comanche County resulted 13 drownings.
6th 1967 - Bonham received 7.15" of rain.
7th 1962 - Severe thunderstorms caused wind damage Cleburne.
8th 1921 - From the 8th through the 10th, 215 people drowned the worst rainstorm Texas history.
1900 - On the 8th and 9th, the great Galveston hurricane killed 6,000 to 8,000 people. This was the worst natural disaster U.S. history terms of fatalities.
9th 1921 - Thrall reported 36.4" of rain in 18 hours.
10th 1955 - A severe thunderstorm produced wind gusts to 67 mph at Meacham Field Fort Worth, damaging some airplanes.
11th 1961 - Matagorda and Port Lavaca had sustained winds of 145 mph association with Hurricane Carla. This was the highest sustained wind on record Texas.
1950 - A severe thunderstorm in Fort Worth produced wind gusts to 58 mph.
12th 1961 - Waco recorded their lowest sea level pressure on record, 28.91"Hg.
13th 1918 & 1905 - Fort Worth recorded their last yearly occurrence with a high of 100 degrees or more.
14th 1960 - The Fort Worth Weather Office assumed responsibility for issuing public forecasts.
15th 1928, 1920 & 1918 - Waco recorded their last yearly occurrence of a high of 95 degrees or more.
16th 1951 - High temperature of 107°F Dallas tied the record for the month of September.
1875 - First Indianola hurricane partially destroyed the town, killing 176 people.
17th 1988 - Severe thunderstorm hit Denton with wind gusts to 70 mph.
18th 1955 - On the 18th and 19th, "the best rain in 5 years" fell across North Texas. 3" to 9" of rain fell across the area from Tarrant County to Eastland and Erath Counties.
19th 1950 - 3" to 5" of rain fell Fort Worth, causing major flooding parts of the city.
20th 1967 - 67 tornadoes occurred across the state association with Hurricane Beulah. This was the most tornadoes any 24 hour period Texas.
21st 1900 - On the 20th and 21st, 7" of rain fell overnight Fort Worth, resulting a 20 foot rise the Trinity River.
22nd 1983 - Bridgeport, McKinney and Weatherford recorded morning low temperatures the 30s.
23rd 2000 - At 5 minutes to midnight, DFW Airport received 0.01" of rain ending the longest measurable rain-free period on record. The new record, 84 days, began Jul. 1st. It eclipsed the old record of 58 days set from Nov. 4th to Dec. 31st, 1950. An additional 0.16" of rain fell on Sep. 24th, 2000.
1966 - The River Forecast Center moved into the federal building downtown Fort Worth, adjacent to the public forecast office.
24th 1984 - This was the last yearly occurrence of a high of 95°F or more Waco.
25th 1896 - Waxahachie received 2.5" of rain.
26th 1972 - Tornado destroyed 9 mobile homes Saginaw, injuring one person.
27th 1977 - High temperature of 106°F in Waco was the hottest ever for so late the year.
1942 - Low temperature of 40°F in Fort Worth tied a record for the month of September. The low temperature of 39 degrees Waco set the record for the month of September.
28th 1953 - Dublin had a high of 109°F.
1908 - Low temperature of 40°F Fort Worth tied the record for the month of September.
1900 - Heavy rain caused the Trinity River Fort Worth to rise to a height of 35 feet, and was over one mile wide.
29th 1953 - Dallas had a high of 100°F.
30th 1926 - Dallas Weather Bureau Office moved to the new cotton exchange building.
