1st 1970 - Weather Bureau was renamed the National Weather Service.
1974 - Upper air section moved from Carswell Air Force Base to Stephenville.
2nd 1989 - The third latest occurrence of a high of 100°F or more Waco.
3rd 1951 - The high temperature Fort Worth reached 106°F. This was the latest occurrence of a high of 100°F or more Fort Worth.
4th 1983 - The high temperature Waco was 100°F. This was the latest occurrence of a high of 100 degree or more Waco.
5th 1918 - The last occurrence of a high of 90°F or more for the year Waco.
6th 1911 - The last occurrence of a high of 90°F or more for the year Waco.
7th 1949 - Severe thunderstorm caused considerable wind damage southeast Fort Worth. This is the average date of the last high of 90°F or more Waco.
8th 1958 - Fort Worth received 3.95" of rain in one hour.
1919 - F3 tornado killed 3 people Lamar County.
9th 1970 - an internal reorganization of the Department of Commerce put the National Weather Service as part of NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), and ESSA was abolished.
10th 1904 - The last occurrence of a high of 90°F or more for the year Fort Worth.
11th 1981 - The 11th through the 14th, the most damaging flood occurred across North Texas. Damage was estimated at 105 million dollars.
12th 1880 - Brownsville was hit by a major hurricane, causing extensive damage and many deaths.
13th 1977 - Bridgeport and Weatherford had a very early first freeze of the season.
1960 - Dallas/Fort Worth area was hit by 60 mph winds and 3" of rain, which caused some flooding.
14th 1905 - The last occurrence of a high of 90°F or more for the year Fort Worth.
15th 1913 - A Weather Bureau Office was established Dallas the old cotton exchange building.
16th 1910, 1909 & 1908 - this was the last occurrence of a high of 90°F or more for the year Waco.
17th 1985 - Severe thunderstorm rolled a construction trailer Arlington and produced 70 mph winds Dallas.
18th 1926 - The last occurrence of a high of 90°F or more for the year Fort Worth.
19th 1921 - The last occurrence of a high of 90°F or more at DFW.
20th 1978 & 1977 - This was the last occurrence of a high of 90°F or more at DFW.
21st 1979 - The last occurrence of a high of 90°F or more for the year at DFW airport.
22nd 1898 - The earliest freeze on record occurred the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
23rd 1980 - Severe thunderstorm produced golf ball size hail and high winds Denton.
24th 1917 - The earliest freeze on record occurred Waco.
25th 1982 - Weatherford had the first freeze of the year.
26th 1970 - Severe thunderstorm produced golf ball size hail and considerable damage Oak Cliff.
27th 1957 - The second earliest fall freeze on record occurred the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
28th 1955 - The earliest snowfall on record occurred the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
1896 - F2 tornado killed one person Grayson County.
29th 1952 - The first freeze of the fall season occurred Dallas.
30th 1917 - The low temperature of 24°F Fort Worth set a record for the month of October.
31st 1948 - Upper air observations were moved from Fort Worth to Carswell Air Force Base.
