1st 1903 - Low temperature of 34°F at Fort Worth was a record for the month of May.
1903 - Low temperature of 38°F at Waco tied the record for the month of May.
2nd 1903 - Low temperature of 38°F at Waco tied the record for the month of May.
3rd 1948 - F3 tornado killed 3 people Collin County.
4th 1989 - Derecho moved southeast across North Texas. This storm produced hail to baseball size, wind gusts to 100 mph and 1" to 3" of rain. Five people drowned from flash flooding, 22 people were injured due to high winds and many homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed.
1922 - Tornado killed 12 people Austin.
1920 - F1 tornado killed one person Dallas County.
1890 - F3 tornado killed 6 people Hood and Johnson Counties.
5th 1995 - Supercell thunderstorm moved across Parker, Tarrant and Dallas Counties. Hail damage from the storm was over 1 billion dollars, 109 people were injured by large hail and 17 people drowned from flash flooding.
1915 - F4 tornado killed 2 people in Haskell County.
6th 1930 - F4 tornado killed 41 people across Hill, Ellis and Navarro Counties.
1907 - F4 tornado killed 5 people in Hopkins County.
1893 - F2 tornado killed one person in Cooke County.
7th 1995 - F3 tornado killed 2 people in Montague County.
1906 - Highest pressure for the month was recorded Fort Worth at 30.50"Hg.
8th 1981 - Supercell thunderstorm across southern Young and northern Palo Pinto Counties moved east southeast across Parker, Tarrant and Dallas Counties. Damage from large hail and high winds was over 379 million dollars.
1936 - F3 tornado killed one person in Fannin County.
1926 - Baseball size hail in Dallas County injured 40 people.
9th 1993 - F2 tornado killed one person Collin County.
1927 - F4 tornadoes killed 19 people in Garland, 15 across the remainder of Dallas County and 8 in Hunt County.
10th 1968, - Corsicana received 9.96" of rain.
1933 - F3 tornado killed 4 people Brown County.
11th 1970 - Lubbock tornado killed 26 people and injured 500. Up to that time it was the most destructive tornado Texas with 135 million dollars worth of damage.
1953 - Deadliest tornado Texas hit Waco, killing 114 people and injuring 597. On the 11th and 12th Waco received 7.18" of rain, which was the greatest 24 hour total on record for the city.
1953 - Tornado hit San Angelo killing 11 people and injuring 159.
12th 1908 - F4 tornado killed 2 people Fannin County.
13th 1975 - F2 tornado killed 2 people Coleman County.
1965 - The Weather Bureau was reorganized with other agencies to become part of ESSA (Environment Science Services Administration), remaining under the Department of Commerce.
14th 1893 - Arlington had 4.40" of rain.
15th 1949 - Amarillo tornado killed 6 people.
1896 - F5 tornado killed 73 people Denton and Grayson Counties; an F3 tornado killed 2 people in Denton County; and an F2 tornado killed 3 people Cooke and Denton Counties.
16th 1949 - Severe rastorm dumped 5" of rain in Dallas and 10" to 12" across southern Parker and southern Tarrant Counties. It was the worst flooding in the history of Fort Worth.
17th 1987 - F1 tornado killed one person Anderson County.
1939 - F2 tornado killed one person McLennan County.
1889 - F2 tornado killed 2 people Montague County.
18th 1951 - F4 tornado killed 2 people Young County.
1946 - F4 tornadoes killed 3 people Clay and Montague Counties and one person Denton County.
1902 - Tornado hit Goliad killing 114 people and injuring 230. This tornado ties the Waco tornado of 1953 for the most deaths from a single tornado in Texas. Also, an F2 tornado killed 3 people in Limestone and Freestone Counties.
19th 1987 - Severe thunderstorms produced golf ball size hail in Dallas and 60 mph winds in Plano.
20th 1916 - F4 tornado killed 9 people Grayson County.
21st 1917 - F2 tornado killed one person in Kaufman County.
1905 - F3 tornado killed 2 people in Haskell County.
22nd 1987 - Saragosa tornado killed 30 people and injured 121. Most of Saragosa was destroyed.
1938 - F4 tornado killed 4 people in Stephens and Young Counties.
23rd 1971 - F3 tornado killed one person Hill County.
1888 - F2 tornado killed one person Lamar County.
24th 1986 - Supercell thunderstorm moved across Tarrant County producing wind gusts to 95 mph and severe hail up to three feet deep. There was wind damage to over 800 homes and businesses. Three to four" of rain in one hour drowned 2 people.
1906 - F3 tornado killed one person Ellis County.
25th 1908 - Previous heavy rain caused the Trinity River to crest at 52.6 feet Dallas, the highest stage on record. The peak flow was 184,000 cfs. This is the worst flood the history of Dallas. Eleven people drowned.
1907 - F4 tornado killed 3 people in Van Zandt County and an F3 tornado killed 6 people Rains County.
26th 1976 - F3 tornado killed 2 people in Bell County.
27th 1963 - Severe hail storm occurred across North Texas with hail up to 3.5" diameter.
28th 1927 - High of 107°F in Fort Worth was the record for the month of May.
1880 - F4 tornado killed 14 people in Fannin County.
29th 1964 - Severe hail storm left drifts of hail 2' to 4' deep across parts of Ellis and Tarrant Counties.
1950 - Severe thunderstorm produced wind gusts to 80 mph in Grand Prairie and golf ball size hail in Fort Worth.
30th 1909 - F4 tornado killed 34 people at Zephyr, Brown County.
31st 1985 - High of 102°F in Waco was a record for the month of May.
1892 - F4 tornado killed 10 people in Bell and Falls Counties.
