December


1st 1955 - Upper air observations were transferred back to the National Weather Service from the Air Force.
2nd 1913 - Kaufman received 7.53" of rain.
3rd 1967 - The first fall freeze in Dallas occurred.
4th 1934 - The first fall freeze in Fort Worth occurred.
5th 1910 - Severe dust storm occurred across North Texas.
6th 1892 - Elkhart, in Anderson County, had a tornado.
7th 1950 - A strong arctic front brought record low temperatures to North Texas. Low temperatures dropped to 10°F Fort Worth and 13°F Dallas.
8th 1927 - This was the date of the first seasonal occurrence of a low below 20°F Fort Worth.
9th 1898 - 2" to 6" of snow fell across the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
1887 - 9" of snow fell Palestine.
10th 1961 - This was the date of the first fall freeze in Fort Worth.
11th 1972 - On the 10th and 11th and ice storm made roads impassable across North Texas.
12th 1962 - This was the date of the first fall freeze in Dallas.
13th 1984 - F3 tornado moved from eastern Ellis County, north-northeast across Mesquite to Lake Lavon. Twenty eight people were injured and 600 homes were damaged or destroyed.
14th 1971 - Severe thunderstorms caused widespread damage to houses, mobile homes and businesses across North Texas, injuring 34 people.
15th 1994 - The WSR-88D doppler radar in Fort Worth was commissioned.
16th 1977 - The worst dust storm 21 years occurred across North Texas.
17th 1981 - This was the date of the first fall freeze in Fort Worth.
18th 1952 - A severe thunderstorm hit Meacham Field in Fort Worth with 65 mph wind gusts, damaging 5 airplanes.
19th 1957 - Gradient winds gusting to 57 mph resulted widespread blowing dust across the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Some scattered wind damage was also reported.
20th 1929 - On the 20th and 21st, Waco tied their 24 hour snowfall record of 13.0".
21st 1963 - On the 21st and 22nd, 1" to 2" of snow fell across North Texas.
22nd 1963 - snow that started on the 21st ended.
23rd 1989 - The highest sea level pressure for December, 31.03"Hg, was tied at Waco.
1989 - The low temperature of 1 degree above zero at DFW airport tied the record for the month of December. The low temperature of -4°F in Waco set a record for the month of December.
1955 - What would eventually become known as the NOAA Weather Wire began operations Fort Worth.
24th 1983 - DFW airport had their all time highest sea level pressure of 31.06".
1955 - The high temperature of 91°F Waco was a record for the month of December.
1920 - This was the date of the first freeze Dallas.
25th 1983 - The coldest temperature on Christmas day occurred at DFW airport of 6°F.
1965 - This was the date of the freeze of the season in Fort Worth.
1926 - The only known white Christmas in the Dallas/Fort Worth area occurred (6" Dallas and 2" Fort Worth).
26th 1933 - This was the date of the first freeze of the season in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
27th 1968 - A dryline frontal passage produced a wind gust to 79 mph Fort Worth.
28th 1920 - The low temperature of 20°F in Fort Worth was the coldest of the winter of 1920-21.
29th 1946 - This was the date of the first occurrence of a low below 20°F for the winter season Fort Worth.
30th 1978 - The worst ice storm 30 years hit the Dallas/Fort Worth area, making roads nearly impassable.
1951 - The high temperature of 90°F in Dallas was a record for the month of December.
31st 1960 - A strong arctic front dropped temperatures across the Dallas/Fort Worth area over 60°F less than 24 hours.
