August


1st 1943 - This was the beginning of 10 consecutive days with a high of 100°F or more Fort Worth.
2nd 1985 - Delta flight 191 crashed at DFW airport from a downburst produced from a thunderstorm, killing 137 people. This was the worst aviation disaster the history of the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
1953 - This was the beginning of 25 consecutive days with a high of 100°F or more Fort Worth.
3rd 1980 - This was the last of 42 consecutive days of a high of 100°F or more at Waco and the DFW airport.
1970 - Aransas pass and Robstown had wind gusts estimated at 180 mph, association with Hurricane Celia. This was the highest wind gust on record Texas.
4th 1894 - On the 3rd and 4th, 4.76" of rafell at Weatherford.
5th 1964 - Bonham had a high of 110°F.
6th 1984 - McKinney received 4" of rain.
7th 1919 - This was the only day of the year with a high of 100°F or more Dallas.
8th 1988 - The high temperature of 107°F at the DFW airport was a daily record high.
9th 1933 - This was the first of 14 consecutive days with a high of 100°F or more at the DFW airport.
10th 1936 - Paris had an all time high of 115°F.
11th 1936 - The high temperature Dallas was 112°F setting a record for the month of August.
12th 1966 - The Fort Worth Weather Forecast Office moved to the federal building downtown Fort Worth.
1962 - The high temperature Gainesville was 112°F.
1936 - The high temperature of 120°F Seymour tied the all time high for the state of Texas.
13th 1925 - Denton was hit by a severe hail storm.
14th 1967 - An unusually strong cold front brought record low temperatures the mid 60s to the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
15th 1990 - This was the beginning of 18 consecutive days with a high of 100°F or more Waco.
16th 1943 - Gatesville had a high of 112°F.
1903 - This was the only day of the year with a high of 100°F or more Dallas.
17th 1923 - This was the last day of the year the high was 100°F or more Fort Worth.
18th 1909 - The high temperature Fort Worth of 112°F tied the record for the month of August. Temperatures of 114 to 115°F occurred Dallas northeast to Paris.
1963 - Hurricane Alicia hit Texas. It was the most damaging Hurricane to hit the state with 3 billion dollars damage.
19th 1918 - A severe dust storm hit the Fort Worth area.
20th 1886 - On the 20th and 21st, the second hurricane to hit Indianola completely destroyed the town. Indianola was never rebuilt.
21st 1966 - A tornado destroyed a store at Lake Dallas.
22nd 1896 - On the 22nd and 23rd, Fort Worth received 4.78" of rain.
23rd 1958 - The federal aviation act broadened the scope of weather responsibility of the Weather Bureau to include aviation interests. This was was the beginning of wide scale aviation forecasting.
24th 1915 - Dallas received 2.87" of rain in 75 minutes.
25th 1966 - An early fall cold front caused record low temperatures the lower 60s across the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
26th 1947 - On the 26th and 27th, 9.18" of rain fell in Dallas. This was the greatest 24 hour rainfall total on record for Dallas.
27th This is the average date of the last 100 degree high at the DFW airport.
28th 1899 - This was the last day of 10 consecutive days with a high of 100°F or more Dallas.
29th 1992 - An early fall cold front brought a record low temperature of 60°F to the DFW airport.
30th 1986 - The low temperature of 57°F was a record for the month of August Waco.
31st 1915 - The low temperature of 55°F Fort Worth was a record for the month of August.
