While major winter storms are not as common here as they are farther north, winter weather can cause serious impacts across the area. One of the heaviest snowfalls in recent years occurred in early March, 2008, when up to nine inches of snow fell in a swath from Eastland to Sherman. Sherman reported nine inches, while Denton had seven and Eastland had three.
Heavy snow is a somewhat rare event for North Texas, but freezing rain and sleet can and often do impact North Texas more frequently and more severely.
