Above normal temperatures dominated the month.  For both DFW and Waco, June 2011 ranked among the warmest on record.  Waco's average high temperature for the month of 99.9°F was an all-time record.

During the middle of the month, DFW Airport recorded 7 consecutive days with triple-digit temperatures.  Drought-plagued Waco tallied 10 consecutive 100-degree days, including 4 consecutive days with record highs.  Combined with 7 other 100-degree days during the month, Waco totalled 17 triple-digit highs in June, tying the all-time record previously set in 1998.

There were few days with rainfall during the month, but the thunderstorms that occurred June 20-22 brought heavy rain to portions of North Texas.  The image of estimated rainfall below shows the heavy rain that impacted the Metroplex as well as areas from Corsicana to Athens.

Strong winds also accompanied the storms.  During the early morning hours of June 21, Denton recorded a peak wind of 75 mph.

Some locations in the Metroplex, including DFW Airport and Dallas Love Field, have recorded above normal precipitation during the last 3 months (April-June).  However, for the vast majority of North Texas, the drought persists.  Mineral Wells has only received 38% of normal precipitation since the beginning of October.
