January to July 2011 ranks as the driest on record for Texas.
The statewide average of 6.53" shatters the previous record of 9.52" from 1956.

Despite Tropical Storm Hermine last September, the 12-month period (August 2010 - July 2011)
is the driest on record for Texas, eclipsing the previous record from 1924-1925.
