Central Texas Radar Dual Polarization Installation to Begin October 24th!

...Updated October 24th, 2012...

The team doing the bulk of the work for the national Dual-Polarization upgrades is ahead of schedule. Therefore, the schedule for the Central Texas radar, KGRK, has changed. The schedule for the Fort Worth (KFWS) radar is likely to  be moved up by a couple of weeks as well.

The Central Texas Doppler Radar, KGRK, will undergo a modernization to install new technology known as dual polarization. Installation will take up to two weeks and will begin on Wednesday, October 24th, and last until November 2nd.

The upgrade will cause the KGRK radar to be down and unavailable for much of the two week duration. During the down time, NWS  Fort Worth/Dallas will use surrounding radars for coverage including those in Fort Worth, Shreveport, Austin/San Antonio, Houston, and Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene.

The North Texas Radar, KFWS, is now tentatively scheduled scheduled for its upgrade to begin November 5th, lasting through November 16th
