AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NASHVILLE TN
915 PM CST THU FEB 26 2015

.UPDATE...

LIGHT SNOW HAS MOVED INTO MIDDLE TN THIS EVENING. AMOUNTS STILL
LOOK TO BE A DUSTING...BUT PUT IN A TENTH OR TWO ACROSS AREAS
MAINLY NORTH OF I40. ALSO LOWERED TEMPERATURES JUST A BIT FROM THE
PREVIOUS FORECAST WITH SOME HINTS OF MAINLY HIGH CLOUDS
UPSTREAM...AS WELL AS DEWPOINTS BEING JUST UNDER THE PREVIOUS
FORECAST AS WELL. LIGHT SNOW SHOULD SLIDE EASTWARD THROUGH THE
EVENING AND INTO EARLY MORNING...LEAVING JUST THE FAR NORTHEAST
WITH SNOW CHANCES AFTER MIDNIGHT. OTHERWISE LEFT THE REMAINDER OF
THE FORECAST IN TACT.

FEW FLURRIES AND MVFR CIGS. CIGS MAY BOUNCE BETWEEN MVFR/VFR

5-12KTS TONIGHT WILL BECOME NORTHERLY 5-10KTS ON FRIDAY.

DISCUSSION...
SW-NE SHORTWAVE AXIS EXTENDS FROM THE GREAT LAKES THROUGH THE UPPER
MIDWEST. WEAK IMPULSE ALONG THE BASE OF THE TROUGH WILL MOVE ACROSS
OUR AREA TONIGHT. THIS COULD PRODUCE A LIGHT SNOW SHOWER HERE AND
THERE. OTHERWISE...COLD TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED AS SFC HIGH
PRESSURE BUILDS SOUTHWARD THROUGH THE PLAINS STATES.

SOME SUNSHINE MAY RETURN ON FRIDAY. IT WILL REMAIN RATHER COLD
THOUGH AS SUB ZERO 850 MB TEMPS COVER A GOOD CHUNK OF THE EASTERN
U.S..

FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...THE UPPER PATTERN WILL
CONTINUE TO FEATURE A SPLIT FLOW. HOWEVER...THE SOUTHERN JET WILL
BECOME MORE ZONAL AND ALLOW FOR BOTH MOISTURE AND TEMPERATURES TO
INCREASE. BY SATURDAY NIGHT...A FEW SHOWERS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH
LOW TEMPERATURES GENERALLY A FEW DEGREES ABOVE FREEZING.

IN THE EXT FCST...A CLIPPER SYSTEM WILL PASS TO OUR NORTH BUT WILL
DRAG A COLD FRONT THROUGH THE AREA. THE FRONT WILL STALL TO OUR
SOUTH AND THEN WORK QUICKLY BACK TO THE NORTH AS A WARM FRONT BY
TUESDAY. IN FACT...MEX NUMBERS ON TUESDAY SUGGEST MID 60S TO NEAR 70
FOR HIGHS ON TUESDAY. WILL LIKELY UNDERCUT THIS BY A FEW DEGREES,

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL APPROACH BY LATE WEEK AND PROVIDE A GOOD
CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND PERHAPS SOME TSTM ACTIVITY. THIS WILL BE
FOLLOWED BY COLDER AIR ONCE AGAIN AND POSSIBLY SOME LIGHT FROZEN
PRECIP FOR THURSDAY. A REAL ROLLER COASTER OF TEMPERATURES ARE
POSSIBLE. BUT AT ANY RATE...IN GENERAL...THE EXTENDED LOOKS
UNSETTLED.
