LINE WIND DAMAGE IN NORTH GEORGIA LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND EARLY
THURSDAY MORNING /APRIL 6-7 2016/...

.SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAUSED STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE ACROSS
AREAS OF FORSYTH AND HALL COUNTIES FROM JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT
WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY THURSDAY MORNING SHORTLY AFTER MIDNIGHT.
A COMBINED GROUND AND AERIAL SURVEY OF THE AREA CONDUCTED BY
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND LOCAL/STATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT
OFFICIALS REVEALED TWO AREAS OF WIDESPREAD STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE.
THE FIRST DAMAGE PATH EXTENDED FROM TO 2 TO 4 MILES NORTH OF CUMMING
AND CONSISTED OF NUMEROUS SNAPPED OR UPROOTED TREES AS WELL AS
MINOR DAMAGE TO SEVERAL SHEDS AND HOUSE ROOF SHINGLES ALONG A
NARROW PATH. THE SECOND DAMAGE AREA BEGAN ABOUT 3.0 MILES
NORTHWEST OF FLOWERY BRANCH AND CONTINUED EAST NORTHEAST TO 1.3
MILES NORTH NORTHEAST OF OAKWOOD. HUNDREDS OF TREES WERE DOWNED WHICH
CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO OVER THIRTY HOMES.

SURVEY SUMMARY: AN AREA OF STRONG STRAIGHT LINE WINDS BEGAN
NORTH OF CUMMING GEORGIA LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY THURSDAY
MORNING. A SURVEY TEAM OBSERVED NUMEROUS TREES SNAPPED OR UPROOTED
ALONG WITH MINOR DAMAGE TO SEVERAL SHEDS AND ROOFS TO HOUSES ALONG A PATH
APPROXIMATELY 3.5 MILES LONG AND 0.5 MILES WIDE. ESTIMATED
MAXIMUM WINDS WERE AROUND 70 MPH.

SURVEY SUMMARY: HUNDREDS OF TREES WERE DOWNED WHICH CAUSED
SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO OVER 53 HOMES. FIVE WERE DESTROYED...NINE
HAD MAJOR DAMAGE AND THE REMAINDER WERE MINOR DAMAGE.
