...THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE IN FAYETTE COUNTY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE CITY CONDUCTED A
PRELIMINARY DAMAGE SURVEY IN FAYETTE COUNTY THIS EVENING AND
DETERMINED A MICROBURST...WITH WINDS ESTIMATED BETWEEN 80-90
MPH...UPROOTED AND SNAPPED NUMEROUS TREES BETWEEN TYRONE AND
PEACHTREE CITY. THE STORMS AND WIND IMPACTED THE AREA BETWEEN
5:40 AND 6:00 PM EDT...WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24TH.

THE HARDEST HIT AREA WAS TO A MOBILE HOME COMMUNITY OFF SENOIA
ROAD ABOUT 2 MILES SOUTH OF TYRONE. APPROXIMATELY 20-30 LARGE
PINES WERE EITHER SNAPPED OR UPROOTED...SEVERAL FALLING ON AND
DESTROYING MOBILE HOMES. THERE WERE NO MAJOR INJURIES. THE TREES
WERE LAYING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE STORMS/WIND...TO THE SOUTH-
SOUTHWEST.

ADDITIONAL TREES WERE SNAPPED OR UPROOTED ALONG SENOIA ROAD...
BETWEEN DOGWOOD TRAIL AND GEORGIA HIGHWAY 74. THE SURVEY WAS
SUSPENDED DUE TO DARKNESS BUT MUCH OF THE INFORMATION HAS BEEN
COLLECTED. A MORE FORMAL REPORT OF THE DAMAGE ACROSS FAYETTE
COUNTY WILL BE COMPLETED TOMORROW /THURSDAY/ JUNE 25.
