Student Volunteer Program
requirements for Computer and Electronics Volunteers


College Student Volunteers

The student volunteer must have strong computer skills in both Linux and XP programs.
The student volunteer must have a general interest in the electronics field.
This volunteer program is designed to introduce students to the Electronic Department of the National Weather Service. Also, the volunteer will gain valuable computer and electronic experience which will allow them to stand out when applying for future career opportunities.
Please understand that this is not a computer training course. Strong computer skills in the programs listed above are needed to be considered for this position.

Term: Summer: Minimum of 2 days per month and a maximum of 4 days per month. 2-4 hours per day.

    Shifts must begin after 9a.m. Tuesday thru Friday.
    No Mondays.
Orientation required as well as a 1 day class.
Each day would involve a volunteer completing his/her required or assigned tasks. This consists of:
  • Answering phones
  • Writing script files
  • Solving Meteorological programming issues
  • Continued building of electronic skills

The volunteer is required to complete the NOAA security course.
