On March 15, 2008 severe thunderstorms raked across much of North and Central Georgia. One of the 3 tornadoes that occurred that day struck Butts County. The tornado touched down at 615 pm EDT in the southwest part of the county near Joe Land Road and Kinards Mill Road. The tornado caused damage to numerous trees and destroyed a barn along a 3.25 mile path that ended near the Brooks Road and Nathan Thaxton Road intersection. The path width was around 100 yards.
