On March 15, 2001 Georgia's StormReady Executive Board met with dignitaries from Columbia County, including representatives from the County Board of Commissioners, and the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency. The purpose - to publicly recognize the county as a "StormReady Community". A Certificate of Recognition and StormReady street signs were presented. Making the presentation were Mr. Bernard Palmer, Meteorologist-in-Charge, and Mr. Steve Naglic, Warning Coordination Meteorologist from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Columbia, South Carolina. Dan Thurman from GEMA was also on hand.
