The National Weather Service presented employees of the Carrollton Water Plant with a 50 Year Service Award. The Award was given to employees in a ceremony at the Water Plant in Carrollton on Thursday, September 11, 2003.

Presenting the Award was Lans Rothfusz, Meteorologist-In-Charge of the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Peachtree City. "With all the technologies available such as radar and satellites, your work is the foundation upon which local, national, and global climatologies are established," said Rothfusz.

The Carrollton Water Plant is part of the National Weather Service's Cooperative Weather Network. The network provides daily and monthly temperature and rainfall data to the National Weather Service and was established in September of 1953.

The National Weather Service's Cooperative Observer Program began approximately 100 years ago, and today more than 11,000 dedicated volunteer observers across the nation, including 200 in the state of Georgia, continue the tradition of service to the citizens of this country by providing an unparalleled record of historical and climatological data. The information provided by Cooperative Observer sites such as the Carrollton Water Plant is used extensively by groups interested in agriculture, tourism, construction, and resource management, to name just a few.
