by Lans Rothfusz, Barry Gooden, Jim Noel, Jim Noffsinger and Von Woods

On Sunday, November 10, 2002 isolated severe thunderstorms developed over Central Georgia. Hail, strong wind and even a tornado (F0) caused damage. The counties most affected were: Monroe, Bibb and Jones. Details are available in a Public Information Statement that was issued after a damage survey team from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Peachtree City visited the area on Monday, November 11. Amateur radio operator John Kraus (KC4ZGQ) provided some damage photos of the area.

Additional damage occurred late Sunday night in North Georgia. Parts of Pickens, Dawson and Cherokee Counties were hard hit with damaging winds and a tornado that was rated as an F2 on the Fujita intensity scale. Bartow County also suffered significant damage due to very strong straight line winds, and a couple of tornadoes. One of these tornadoes rated as high as F2, while the other has been rated F1. Details on these storms are included in a Public Information Statement. Thankfully, there were no fatalities, but several people were injured.
