Autumn / Winter 2006 - 2007
The first significant cold spell in Georgia occurred in the middle of October (Oct 14, 15, 16). Temperatures across most of North and Central Georgia fell into the 30s during that period. Most locations along and north of a line from Cedartown to Cumming to Cleveland recorded their first freeze of the 2006-2007 winter season...with a number of sites even dipping into the 20s. Across most of the rest of North and Central Georgia temperatures dipped into the 35 to 40 degree range. The next surge of cold air arrived on Oct 24, 25, and 26. This took temperatures below freezing for 90 percent of the area north of a line from Louisville to Macon to Carrollton...while the rest of North and Central Georgia saw readings dip into the middle 30s. Macon and Athens saw their first freeze of the season during this event.
